Song of the Day: Jill Phillips

By

Oh man, do I love this song. The big last chorus is so beautiful it’s made me cry (though according to my friends, that ain’t saying much). I’m pretty sure Andy Gullahorn wrote this one, but Jill’s voice just knocks it out of the park.

THE DOOR (from the album Nobody’s Got It All Together)

I come to you with my broken heart in my hands
I come to you with my broken heart in my hands
Since you brought dead ones to life
I know you can do that with mine
So I come to you with my broken heart in my hands

I come to you with an anxious and troubled mind
I come to you with an anxious and troubled mind
Just like you did to the seas
I know that you will bring peace
So I come to you with an anxious and troubled mind

I ask I seek and knock
I ask I seek and knock
I ask I seek and knock
That the door will be opened

I come to you with the burdens I can not bear
I come to you with the burdens I can not bear
Your yoke is easy so I
Can trade them for one that is light
So I come to you with the burdens I can not bear

I ask I seek and knock
I ask I seek and knock
I ask I seek and knock
That the door will be opened
the door will be opened
the door will be opened

I come to you with a life that I do not own
I come to you with a life that I do not own
The door to your kingdom is grace
And you gave your own life away
That the door will be opened

Great song. If I had to pick one SPA member as my favorite it would be Jill. Her songs go far into my head and either put words to what I feel that I can’t express or relate almost word for word (scarily) to what I am going through. This whole CD was instantly a classic to me. It is like i have heard them for 20 years.
Ya know that favorite pair of jeans you look for? the ones that fit just right, even after they relax?
yeah, those. Clean, fresh and warm from the dryer too.

That is what Jill’s music is too me. Like Home.

(Sorry, Jill for not coming up with any better comparsion)

Jill is one of my favorite’s too. IT’s so perplexing to me why she’s not a superstar. And I like Andy Gullahorn, her husband, too, but she’s WAY better looking than he is.

Thanks for the kind words, friends. It is an honor to be up here on song of the day. I would have written sooner but we are in the middle of nowhere Washington state right now. I love that I am married to a great songwriter who lets me steal his songs to fill holes on my records! They usually end up being everyone’s favorites dang it. I also love Steve Mason’s vocals on this version, he really made the song. So there you go. Thank you rabbit roomies.

This song utters, I think, what many of us have felt but were unable to express. Beauty in simplicity…

my two favorite female vocalists, jill philahorn and alison krauss, have both finally made it onto the rabbit (listening) room!

stell, you can stream it above. just push play…

folks, me and stell are some of the few who discovered square pegs here in the philippines… we’re blessed to dig these gem of music that speaks directly to our hearts rather than those commercial corporate worship songs that sometimes doesnt relate at all
