Song of the Day: Melanie Penn

By

This Tuesday’s Song of the Day is the title track from one of my favorite records of the year, Melanie Penn’s amazing debut Wake Up Love. Have a listen but don’t just sample it, be sure to listen for the amazing finale of the song. I’m not sure but I think Ben Shive (producer) may have hired the cast of The Lion King for that ending — monkeys, wildebeests, Poomba and Timon, the whole Serengeti. Best listened to loudly, whilst driving, with the windows down. Perfect summer music.

I bought this record (is it really ok to still call them records these days?) a month or so ago due to all the comments on the Rabbit Room. Ooohh, I love it!
Music that makes me smile + words make me think = perfect combo

I think “Music that makes me smile + words make me think” is the nicest thing I have ever heard.

And yes, we did hire the bowling lunch group for the backgrounds.

After becoming friends with a fellow Rabbit Room follower, we eagerly shared our favourite books and must have CDs. This was one she recommended to me. Well, I could resist no longer and have just downloaded a copy. Bravo, Rabbit Room 😀

Anyone who uses “whilst” cannot lie. Pete says truly that the finale is amazing! Perfect morning alarm clock music!

Okay, I’ve been meaning to buy this forever, and this song convinced me. So did the special price. Download’d!

BEAUTIFUL music from a beautiful person. She has been one of my best friends since elementary school and when she wanted to play her demo for me I braced myself to put on my “that is great” face because we all know that friends usually make pretty awful demos. But this was fantastic. I was blown away. Then when I heard the finished album, I just couldn’t stop listening….not because she is my friend, but in spite of it. What a great album.

Seriously…. wow. That is an amazing song with an absolutely amazing ending. I whole heartedly agree with Pete!

Melanie has some of my favorite “aha!” moments in song. I saw the title and listened to a snippet of this on Amazon way back, and it was instantly obvious. Of course, Ordinary Day needs no explanation. I’m a huge fan of the slow reveal.

Really been enjoying this record. That ‘Ordinary Day’ song kills me every time.

Melanie is definitely the most talented of the Penn siblings. (Even if she punched that photographer in the face that time.)

I’m late to the party on this one…but, agreed! Perfect summer music. I’m driving to the beach in an hour and wish that I had this record to put in my CD player instead of just on my “to buy soon” list.
