Behind the Song: “Rise Up”

Ben Shive wrote and recorded this one for his first record several years ago, and I told him immediately that I wanted to record it for Resurrection Letters: Vol. I.

It’s not only about our resurrection on the last day, but God’s promise to return and make all things right again. It’s such an honor to cover a song by one of the finest songwriters I’ve ever known.

As a singer-songwriter and recording artist, Andrew has released more than ten records over the past fifteen years. His music has earned him a reputation for writing songs that connect with his listeners in ways equally powerful, poetic, and intimate. He has also followed his gifts into the realm of publishing. His books include the four volumes of the award-winning Wingfeather Saga.

I am encouraged to sobbing, flowing tears by this song; I can live for Jesus and I can die for Him. It is an anthem.  AP, tremendous. Thank you for choosing to cover this song. Ben Shive, how would we have heard this otherwise?  Sing it strong, we are listening. Our hearts need good cheer for our road ahead.

  2. Conrad Beattie

I just recently finished reading “A New Heaven and a New Earth: Reclaiming Biblical Eschatology” by J.Richard Middleton where he clearly shows the holistic nature of salvation insofar as we don’t all abandon Earth in favor of a celestial eternity elsewhere (Heaven), but that Heaven comes down to Earth and God will dwell with Man again (Sound familiar? ‘Is He Worthy’).  Then I was reading Matthew chapter 19 and in verse 28 Jesus says,”Truly, I say to you, in the regeneration…” It was like a jolt of electricity – not that I hadn’t read it before. It just hadn’t resonated quite the same way before. Keep preaching the truth through song – it is a powerful medium of communication.
