  • A friend and I have been asked to lead a summer book club on The Great Divorce. It’s one of my all-time faves, but I confess that it’s been a while (too long) since I read it.

Anybody have some favorite discussion questions?

Also, we’re going to meet for four weeks, so we’re trying to decide how best to divide up the 14 chapters. The first week needs to be light on reading, since there won’t be a lot of time (any time?) between delivering books and the first time we meet.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

    Here are a few:

What is the view of sin presented in TGD?

What is the view of salvation/deliverance?

How does grace deal with human choice?

What flesh-patterns are presented in the Ghost characters?

Why would anyone choose misery and suffering when eternal bliss is offered?

How do we live in Heaven or Hell here and now, on Earth?

To which patterns, philosophies, sins, or hurts does each Ghost insist upon hanging on? Do you know any people with those particular tendencies, including yourself? What does Lewis present as the cure for temptation/sin?

    Thanks, Ron!

    Follow-up question:

I’m hoping to offer people some art or journaling prompts. What stands out to you from TGD as a theme that would be well-explored through art?
