Well, that was weird. I stumbled across your website today, thought I’d give the podcast a burl and then you’re talking about the very chapter of Schmemann I was reading last night (Trampling Down Death…). I live in a secular bubble and don’t know anyone else who has even heard of  “For the Life of the World,” so I was fairly chuffed. Thanks!

Thank you guys for broaching this topic! There is a song that my church sings quite often, “The Wonderful Cross” by Chris Tomlin, and I can never quite sing it whole-heartedly. One of the choruses says,

“Oh the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross

bids me come and die and find that I may

    truly live…”

Oftentimes I’ll transpose “Christ” in for “cross” (hoping no one else hears me, hehe.) I’ve always felt that CHRIST is what is truly beautiful, but the cross is this horrific instrument of death that killed my Savior. That’s also why I’ve never been able to wear cross jewelry or decorate my house with crosses. So I appreciate listening to your thoughts on this, I’ve never heard people actually talk about this question before!
