Making THE LAST FRONTIER, Part Six

By

1. We’ve shot a lot of video that we just haven’t had time to edit into bits yet. Hopefully when we get home the pace will slow enough that we can goof around with the videos more.

2. We’re finishing up a Ben Shive-penned Christmas song for Centricity’s upcoming sequel to their Bethlehem Skyline compilation. It’s called “Long, Long Ago,” and it shore is purty.

3. This afternoon we drive 4.5 hours back to Seattle, then tomorrow we fly home. As beautiful as the Cascades are, I miss my family and our little hill at the Warren.

4. I’m humbled and amazed by Ben, Andy, and Gabe. Awesome fellas, excellent musicians, and great friends. May we still be making music together when we’re octogenarians. (And Todd Robbins is pretty awesome, too.)

5. Did I mention that the title of the album is The Last Frontier?

Here’s the potential song list, which will be pared down to ten. What doesn’t make the cut will appear on Appendix D, or J, or whatever.

Many Roads

Fool With A Fancy Guitar

Dancing in the Minefields

The Same Song

God of My Fathers

The Reckoning

The Magic Hour

The Last Frontier

Planting Trees

The Isle of Skye

I am so, so, so, so, so, so, excited for this. Especially to see what “The Isle of Skye” is all about. And speaking on behalf of everyone else, we want more than 10. 🙂

    Blessings, blessings, blessings!

Please don’t pare it down to ten! We need more! They all (of the ones you let us hear snippets) sound so darn good! And we have to wait until summer?! Oy Vey! Not sure if I can stand it. Bless you all, and have a safe trip home. =)

  3. Amy

Oh please please please don’t pare down the list! We the fans would LOVE an album with 13 songs!!!! Can’t wait till it comes out!

  4. Paula Shaw

I’m thinking “The Isle of Skye” has something to do with either a bonnie wee lass, or Scotland. Or maybe both? =)

  5. Victoria D

This is so silly, but I can’t wait to hear “The Isle of Skye” because, my husband, Skye is named after that Isle. And my daughter is named after the Cuillen hills on Skye.

  6. Paula Shaw

Victoria, that’s not silly at all! We named our son Kyle after the Kyle of Lochalsh. We wanted to give him a name that would remind us of our years in Scotland, but that wouldn’t make him embarrassed back here in the states. We loved living in Scotland and miss it, but are really glad to be back in America. =)

For some reason I thought you were working on Resurrection Letters Vol. 1, but this misunderstanding is perfectly acceptable, because the fact is, Andrew Peterson is recording new music, and whatever that music may be the results are bound to be splendid.

That sounds really good. I’m hoping you won’t cut that song. I really agree with the others that you should put more than 10 songs on there. At least 12 would be nice. I’m enjoying the clips and looking forward to the album.

Thnaks Andrew and I am trying not to get too excited because I know it will be months still to wait before release, but, I like being let in on the recording process and all

    Leigh,
I think that “Priest and a Prince” is probably named “Fool with a Fancy Guitar” as I distinctly remember that line in there.

  11. Jud

I’m loving the darker tone in this tune, so please don’t cut it, okay?

Hey, I just had an idea: perhaps you post samples of all the songs on the web and let the community decide the final cut. That’d be fun.

We beg with one voice for “The Last Frontier: The Extended Director’s Cut Edition.” Two hours of album genius supplemented by five hours of interviews, documentaries, and interactive video quiz games with questions like, “If Gabe Scott were a wild bovine, what kind of wild bovine would he be?”

Hold on…Ben Shive’s last album has 12 tracks, Andy G’s last album has 12 tracks, the last AP album has 11 tracks…think this one needs 12 just to catch up.

I also liked the dobro solo and high singin…

  14. Jared

Good point Jeff, and may I remind everyone that Shive’s album was considered one of the best albums of the year by numerous sources… MORE IS ALWAYS BETTER!!
