Today was a hard day. Ben Shive’s “A Last Time for Everything,” kept running through my head as I watched the news updates from Connecticut. In Ben’s book, The Cymbal Crashing Clouds, he tells the story behind the song and I think it’s especially appropriate today. I’ve excerpted it below in images to maintain the unique formatting of the book.

In words of my favorite rapper, Lecrae, has a song called FALLING DOWN
this is an excerpt form this song.
You scared, I’m not
There’s a time for everything,
A time to be born and a time to die
There’s a time when the world as we know it will end
When that is, I don’t know
But it is goin’ down

Although this is one of my all-time favorite songs, I hadn’t related it to this tragedy. Thank you for putting the two together for me. The imagery pulls me to peace – that singing bird and the packed bags at the curb. This will all pass away and I’m grateful to my core for that.

This song. Every time. Still.
I can’t even write coherently about it.

This song is a perfect choice. I loved it from the first time I heard it, because it turns my thinking upside-down. Something that is desperately needed this week. Thanks for sharing it.
