I love this! John Piper has so much to say about joy (and laughter) being essential to life in Christ, and I dare say it’s not emphasized enough. Good word, George Buttrick. Good word.

“Great Laughter.”
Interestingly, that is the main quality that attracts me to Buechner’s writings over and over again. He has a way of unveiling the joy that exists in this world without doing away with the complexity and grey of it all. That is why he is my favorite writer.
