My friend Russ Ramsey, who was a pastoral consultant for this album, once preached a communion sermon on 1 Corinthians 11.
He said that as we approach the table of the Lord for the Eucharist, we’re doing two things: remembering Christ’s blood and body, and proclaiming his death until he comes. With each step we’re saying, “Remember and proclaim.” Russ called it “the footfall of redemption.” There aren’t many happy songs about communion, so I wanted to write one that actually sounded like we were celebrating communion. And that celebration spills out into every meal we share in Christ’s name.
