• Listening to this was a treat. Thank you! It’s been too long since I read Watership Down and this motivates me to read it again. I think I do remember, though, having a sense that it shared a similar quality with LotR. It seems strange at first that Middle Earth and the rabbit-world of Watership Down could have anything in common, but this help…[Read more]

I have to admit had I very low expectations for Rogue One and I wasn’t even planning to see it in the theater. I’m so glad my sister convinced me to see it anyway! It seems as though we’re enjoying the renaissance of Star Wars. I won’t hold my breath that the next four will all be as good, but I have really enjoyed the most recent two.

    I agree…[Read more]

  • @k-fisher, thanks for that list of concerts! Lots of options there. I would love to go to the Jason Gray concert, but I would have to get time off of work, so that’s tentative for me. I, too, would be very interested in an Andrew Peterson concert, certainly if it comes to Portland, and possibly even if it were in Seattle.

  • Sorry to hear you’ve been fighting pneumonia, @k-fisher! I hope you are on the mend now.

Yes, I think perhaps it’s time for a meetup, now that the craziness of December is almost behind us. I think the idea of a concert, plus dinner perhaps, is a nice idea. What concerts and when?

Thanks for sharing that lovely quote, @sunsteepeddays! That is one I had not encountered yet. It’s good food for thought. I enjoy reading about Tolkien’s experience as a writer. As he shares updates about the writing of LotR it’s interesting to see how the story is developing into something he did not intend from the outset. That quote also s…[Read more]

  • Page CXVI is coming to the Northwest! I’ve enjoyed their creative arrangements of well-loved hymns, but never heard them in person, so I’m excited for this opportunity. (Links to tickets are on Facebook.)

  • @jilliancomrie, Yay! I hope you can join a meet-up with some of us other Portland-area folks! I’ve created a new forum thread where we can start to throw around ideas. Let us know if you have any input!

  • I think coffee or potluck are both nice ideas. Thanks for those location suggestions, @rfriend. And don’t be sorry for having bigger ideas–I think there’s room for both. 🙂

Welcome, Tresta! I glad you’ve joined our West Coast group. 🙂 And, yes! I hope you can join us for a Portland mini-moot!

  • Thanks to both of you for your input, @rfriend and @gypsy!

Roy, thanks for all your ideas! I admire your vision for where this could go! And thanks for being against the idea of it being a one-time thing. I hope it is not. 🙂 I must confess that I had something less ambitious in mind, though! And maybe “mini-moot” isn’t even the right word for…[Read more]

I’m about 75 letters into The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (edited by Humphrey Carpenter). I’m almost ashamed that I’m only now discovering them–they are so good! Already I’ve found many gems, quotes like this one:

No man can estimate what is really happening at the present sub specie aeternitatis [under the aspect of eternity]. All we do know, an…

  • Oh, and just to clarify–this isn’t meant to compete with or replace @rfriend‘s NoPo writer’s group. I think this mini-moot would be more of a one-time deal. Just a chance for all of us Portland area rabbits to meet in person and get to know each other a little more. 🙂

  • There has been enough talk of a possible meetup in the Portland area that I thought it might warrant its own thread. Let’s use this section to get a feel of everyone who’s interested and general ideas for when/where. Once we’ve narrowed it down a bit, we can move to private messaging to keep it secure.

Hoping to see many of you in the not too…[Read more]

  • @jilliancomrie, I totally understand having a crazy schedule. Maybe even waiting till January would be good, after all the craziness of the Christmas season is over? Perhaps we can find a meeting spot that’s fairly central for everyone. I agree that if we plan ahead, more of us may be able to participate.

    Also, welcome, @johnepattison! It’s…[Read more]

@kyra-hinton, I’m sorry I never responded to your mention so many months ago. However, I can relate to both wanting to know people are reading and enjoying what you right, and not posting as often as you would like! In my case, I posted something on my writing blog last week for the first time in about 10 months! RR is a great place for…[Read more]

  • How fun that you’re working in Vancouver, @jilliancomrie! It is a small world. I think the RR meet-up idea is lovely! I think I’m finally coming up for air again after feeling like I was drowning in work, travel and school this summer. Ideas for how/when we should do it?
