• Thank you for your humility, Andrew.

I need to ask for forgiveness myself. I posted a comment trying to diffuse the situation and I’m sure it trivialized the grief others were feeling. Some situations need not be diffused. It was short-sighted of me and it grieves me that I valued looking noble at the expense of sitting and listening.…[Read more]

  • Love this interview! The honest lyrics and ambient outros made had me thinking, “Man, this reminds me SO MUCH of Carrie & Lowell, except more encouraging.” C&L is one of my favorite records so hearing an album in a similar vein that moves beyond the pain and into redemption automatically makes this a favorite. Speaks to so much of the pain I’m…[Read more]

  • I am highly anticipating like 30 albums this year and this is far and away the one I’m looking forward to the most. I’ve been through a lot the last few months and I need a good soundtrack to keep ushering me through the sorrow.

  • Both their records were my favorites of 2015 as well. They’ve been two of my biggest songwriting influences the last year but in entirely different ways so I get a huge kick out of seeing Julien mentioned in The Rabbit Room.

Btw Drew, your band is so good. When I listen to “Inside My Head” it takes me back to being a kid and listening to Nickel…[Read more]

  • Wow! Great piece! Did not expect to open this site and see a Julien Baker review. This has become one of my favorite albums over the last couple years. It’s so achingly sad on first listen, then the hope seeps through the more time you spend with it.

Also, interestingly enough, my two favorite songs of 2015 were both called “Rejoice” (by…[Read more]

  • Excellent piece, Pete. It makes me giddy to see Humble Beast and Rabbit Room connecting even in a small way because your visions are so similar and I’ve been deeply encouraged by both. And this new Propaganda album is astounding.

Also, if you haven’t heard Beautiful Eulogy, go spin Instruments of Mercy first chance you get. It’s…[Read more]

I’m curious what everyone’s been listening to so far this year. I haven’t listened to Drew and Ellie Holcomb’s new albums enough for me to put them on my list but I’m gonna have to change that soon. These are my personal favorite albums so far this year:

    1. After Laughter – Paramore
    2. No Fire – The Sun Kite (acoustic folk artist who no one knows…[Read more]

Oh man, oh man, oh man. I love this show so much. I don’t think we can be 100% sure about the answer to your question, but speculation is what these shows are all about, Charlie Brown. 🙂

    I also think

This is going beyond speculation, but on this subject, I would love to see

And this is just one aspect of the show I’m blabbering about.…[Read more]

So glad there’s a thread on this! I loved this movie. The first half was hard for me to sit through. It felt a little all over the place and I was having trouble keeping track of the characters (although I might would attribute that to my short attention span, which was in full force ). 🙂 But when it all came together in the last third it was…[Read more]

Lanier, this post makes me even more grateful to have been able to meet and talk with you last month! I’ve not had to deal with the death of an immediate family member yet, but through my life it’s seemed like anyone else has been fair game. God has taught me a lot through those trials and as a result this article speaks to me so deeply. The pain…[Read more]

This is getting into tricky time-travel territory where things usually start to break down. Louise was actually hearing the General Shang’s wife’s dying words for the first time when she looked into the future and he told them to her at the party. Unbeknownst to future Shang, he was essentially telling himself his wife’s dying words when he told…[Read more]

I feel the same way about 2001: A Space Odyssey the as I do with Radiohead’s music. I can appreciate how brilliant they are, but they’re not something I ever want to experience over and over again. 🙂

Anyone in this thread a fan of The Hunger Games at all? I would actually put Catching Fire in a list of my favorite sci-fi movies of all-time. Read the books first, that book stood out, and the movie was an even better adaption. I wish the rest of the series lived up to the quality of that film because I think it’s tarnished it’s legacy and…[Read more]

I’ve never seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I know everyone I talk to loves it though.

Inception is my favorite movie of all-time. I think I’ve seen it 15 times at this point. I don’t think people realize how perfectly all the pieces fit together in that film and how deep and emotional and redemptive the themes in it are. I saw it…[Read more]

I just saw this Saturday. Sci-fi is my favorite genre when it’s done well so I knew I’d love this before I even stepped into the the theater.

This movie reminded me a lot of Interstellar, except Interstellar was so huge, where this movie was a lot more intimate in scale. But I think this movie wowed me more than Interstellar by how it managed to…[Read more]
