Hello Rabbit Room Friends! I was able to meet some of you at the Rabbit Room Retreat a year ago at Laity Lodge. I hope this can be a place of reconnection and making new friends as well. I am presently reading Surprised by Joy, by C.S. Lewis, off the heals of Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra – investigating the “deep longing” within these latter books led me to his autobiography which I am surprised, no pun intended, that I had not yet read.

Upon his discovery of a different world of “tastes,” while at Wyvern boarding school, Lewis writes, “I was at last made free of the dangerous secret that others had, like me, found there ‘enormous bliss’ and been maddened by beauty.” He goes on to make the reader aware of the dangers of putting one’s sensibilities or tastes as ‘higher’ than others, and while I wish not to make that mistake, I must say that The Rabbit Room, for me, has been that awakening of the dangerous secret; I have found others who are “maddened by beauty.”

A little about me: I live in Austin, Texas. I am a father of 4 children, aged 4 – 11. I am a UX Designer professionally, but ventures in printmaking, drawing, songwriting, writing, and storytelling make my heart come alive. My wife, Robin, is a Charlotte Mason educator and homeschools our children. I enjoy reading, listening to music and creating things. Leaves and sticks make me cry and I live with a persistent ache in my soul that the world is full of both beauty and sorrow.
