Thank you for this lovely meditation. I’ve also been doing some research lately, looking for the names and stories of people who once lived in my home.

Greetings! I’m a writer, teacher, appreciator of languages and cultures, and maker-of-stuff. I hang up my hats in Cleveland, Ohio, on the shore of Lake Erie. I’ve read Leaf by Niggle before, but it’s been a while. Looking forward to a good discussion!

Thanks for these good words, Russ. You’ve prompted me to ponder both the welcome and the responsibility of redemption–the fact that redemption entails a taking of responsibility for the one redeemed, like Boaz did for Ruth and Naomi. To be redeemed means being able to rest in the redeemer’s having taken responsibility for me–all of my debts, all…[Read more]

Matt, I know the point of the article is Bruce Springsteen and American Skin, but the paragraphs about your mom… My heart just welled with admiration for her feisty perseverance, for her efforts to build a good life for her boy, including finding ways to make fun adventures part of your childhood.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the last person in the world who doesn’t have a smart phone. It’s heartening to hear that others are recognizing the issues and scaling back.

Arrived back home with a full heart. Grateful and resolved to live out the vocation of being God’s child first in the realms of home, church, parish, study and gleeb. Well, after I find my gleeb, that is. But first… a nap!

Uh, so… I might have just read the whole book yesterday. So compelling. Also, extra relevant having just spent several intense days in a courthouse being evaluated for my fitness to serve on a jury.

Perhaps a liturgy for chronic disappointment, desires unfulfilled.

A liturgy for having broken something that was special to you. This is inspired by several painful instances of dropped dinnerware, but could also apply in the abstract to relationships or other things that one might regret one’s handling of. Regret is hard. One often wishes that life came with an undo button. In God’s sovereignty, it does not.

Thanks for the info on this. I checked to see if there was video from this event and it looks like the Trinity Forum does post videos from this series, but this one’s not up yet. Making a note to check back in a few days!

@jennifert, yes. What you just said. I think that the fact that the story didn’t wrap up with a match between the two main characters made it more encouraging to me. It can feel kind of alienating when all happy endings are the romantic kind, but that’s not the kind of story that your own life has turned out to be, at least to this point. I do l…[Read more]

I also walked away thinking about Once, and the sacrifice of real love vs. more surface-y romance. (Also, I was incredibly relieved that Mia didn’t abandon her real life in the end. I was nervous about that.) I love how you’ve described the movie, which clearly flows out of a Jennifer Trafton-specific vision. Keep creating, gal! So glad that you…[Read more]
