In literary fiction, “LaRose” by Louise Erdrich is a fascinating look at two families and asks the question, “Can someone do the worst thing and still be loved?”  It is a book that has a focus on indigenous spirituality, but is a worthwhile read.

If science fiction interests you at all, I’d recommend “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John M…[Read more]

  • @mrs-hittle – how can you edit a post.  I replied to a thread and there are some errors I’d like to correct in it.  Thanks.

These lyrics from “Light of the World” by Lauren Daigle moved me to tears every time I listened to it spoke to a hope that I have longed for this year.  Rather than the whole song (which is all amazing), I’ve posted my favourite parts.

The world waits for a miracle
The heart longs for a little bit of hope
    O come, O come, Emmanuel

    For all who…[Read more]

Since the first time I heard this song, and for hundreds of more listens, I am haunted by these lyrics by Tracy Chapman.

    Why

    Why do the babies starve
When there’s enough food to feed the world
Why when there are so many of us
    Are there people still alone

Why are the missiles called peace keepers
    When they’re aimed to kill
Why is a woman still…[Read more]

This one comes from a mystery book, but something about it spoke to me. How often do I have a longing that cannot be fulfilled yet I do not turn to a difference choice.

“Hungry”, she said, “That’s what it’s like. Inside of me, always.  This … hunger that nothing is able to assuage.  It’s horrible.  It’s why I always feel … well, empty.  I…[Read more]

“God never promised us an easy life. He never promised that we wouldn’t suffer, that we wouldn’t feel despair and loneliness and confusion and desperation. What he did promise was that in our suffering we would never be alone. And though we may sometimes make ourselves blind and deaf to his presence he is beside us and around us and within us al…[Read more]

  • This poem and illustration really spoke to me. It reminds me that the constant tension I feel between my the “old self” and the new life I have through Christ and reassures me that in this battle and every battle, Christ is victorious.  Rejoice – Emmanuel has come.

  • Thanks. I never would have found this song on my own!  But I love it – the voice and the lyrics.  I just bought it on iTunes!  I need to be reminded to have faith, and so will play this often.

  • I’m so excited.  I did this a few years back and really enjoyed choosing gifts for the recipient.  I didn’t get a gift in return that year, but trusting I will this year 😉
