I first encountered George MacDonald through edited versions of his novels by Michael Pillips. I started with Wee Sir Gibbie of the Highlands and then read every novel of Macdonald’s edited by Phillips. Our family also read aloud The Princess and the Goblin, The Princess and Curdie, At the Back of the North Wind, and his other fairy stories for children many times. I then found a company that reprinted his original works (not re-edited) and started reading them. But, Phantastes and Lilith seemed so beyond me. I would start them but not finish. Finally I read through Phantastes once, and then a second time. I felt a little better about it the second time. I have also listened to audio versions of Phantastes and Lilith. Still, I feel I need help and was so excited to participate in this group.
I think I would say my favorite story is The Wise Woman. MacDonald’s Unspoken Sermons have impacted me greatly.
Of all I have read of George Macdonald’s there is always something within it that has left it’s mark in me spiritually.

    • My name is Laura Hepler. I live in Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania, USA. Although I feel I am very much a novice when it comes to poetry I love poetry. Just like Jesus’s parables, poetry elicits a response from me which can be life changing if I receive it. I recently purchased some of Malcolm Guite’s books and intended to use The Word in the Wilderness in my Lenten devotion so I was thrilled to see this opportunity.
