Thank you for this lovely tale. What a joy to read this tribute to a wonderful writer and get a glimpse of some of my favourite characters again. He will be missed, but his voice will still be heard in the legacy of words he left behind.

I was debating between Buechner and Lewis but chose Lewis because he’s been “companioning” longer with me. But I was so glad to see Buechner given a nod and to read your lovely tribute. Well done!

This is a tough one, because there are so many! But, like many of you I suspect, C.S. Lewis is probably at the top of my list. His books have been both spiritual and writing inspiration for me, and his warm, steady hand of companionship along the way has guided me through many a valley. I don’t know what I would say to him other than “Thank you,”…[Read more]

L.A. Smith started the topic Paying attention in the forum Week 2 – Deepening the Life of Prayer 1 year, 2 months ago
I have been challenged over these past few years to slow down and pay more attention by the thought that God is always speaking, but am I listening? One of the ways I’m learning to “listen” is through nature, taking time to be more aware on my daily walks. So I have been enjoying the admonitions to slow reading and meditation on these lovely poems…[Read more]

It’s so delightfully serious and silly all at the same time. The music of the words that always draws me in. “‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe…” Brilliant.

The last few years I have done a small fast daily over Lent – skipping lunch. During the time when I would normally be eating, I listen to a sermon. I also have been finishing some knitted dolls that will be sent out to children facing surgery. I knit these while I listen. I also will be cutting down on social media. Last year I fasted from…[Read more]

Hi folks! I am Lisa Smith from the frozen north (Alberta, Canada). It really IS frozen up here at the moment, but I am eagerly looking forward to spring.
I have a great appreciation for poetry but haven’t read enough to say I have a favourite. Except, perhaps, the Jabberwocky. Does that count? Looking forward to journeying this Lent with Malcolm…[Read more]

Agree with what has been said before, but my first impression on reading his exclamation was thinking he was referring to the restoration of what he thought was lost to him, and not only lost, but disdained as useful in its own right and put to “better” use, and eventually forgotten. What a great gift he was given in seeing the Tree in all its…[Read more]

Eep…not sure if I’m worthy of being the first to answer (*looks around nervously for the smarter people to join in*) but for myself this concept of the Gospel as being the True Tale from which all other Tales spring has been an incredibly rich one because it has helped me to remember to look for glimpses of the Gospel in all creative work. The…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I’m Lisa, and I live in a small town in central Alberta, Canada. My kids have flown the nest, leaving myself and my husband to rattle around in our house, looking for things to do…NOT. I support hubby the best I can in his political career and keep busy with my artistic pursuits, which at the moment is completing the third book in…[Read more]
