Hi. I’m excited to be joining with you all from the North of Ireland.
It was my Dad who introduced me to MacDonald’s stories when I was a child. I rediscovered the ones I’d already read and started to explore the ones new to me a few years ago.
I’ve read ‘Phantastes’ once before, and am very much looking forward to discussing it in depth.
I was given a copy of CS Lewis’ Anthology of MacDonald last Christmas, and have been trying to read one of the entries every day. Since listening to Kirstin, I’ve also added ‘Diary of an Old Soul’ to my daily reading.
Thanks to all at the Rabbit Room for enabling these wonderful reading groups!

Malcolm’s poem ‘First Steps, Brancaster’ seems very apt this season as we long for lockdown to end and healing to commence. How has Malcolm found the last year? Has he
perhaps felt sustained by a greater focus on the natural world? Has it been a fruitful time for him, writing-wise?
(I have certainly felt sustained by his words and his invitations into the library.)

I loved the Heaney poem on Shrove Tuesday. Could you tell us a bit more about the St John of the Cross poem he’s translating here?
