@bethanysanders0@amy-creighton@evergreenVery strange–I’ll double check to make sure you’re all on the email list. Week 3 of the reading group was postponed because our instructor Jonathan had COVID. We’ll resume this Monday, January 11, and have the next Zoom chat on Thursday.

Actually, the email I received with the notice of your response is the first one that I have ever gotten. I usually just go through the website to see what’s next.

Jennifer Trafton replied to the topic How Has Niggle's Story Moved You? in the forum "Leaf by Niggle" by J. R. R. Tolkien 6 months, 2 weeks ago

Meg, I’ve never made that personal connection between the care Niggle took over each leaf and the individual care God has for me–what a lovely thought. But of course, if I am God’s painting, that is exactly how it is. I like imagining Him peering closely at me with his brush, delighting in the thing He is making beautiful, and knowing (as Niggle…[Read more]

Yes, Sarah, that’s why we at the Rabbit Room dislike the term “creatives.” We are ALL creative, each in our own way.

Those are really helpful comparisons/connections. Art shows us the *why* of things–love that.

Thanks for being brave and going first, Renee! 🙂 I’ve found that many people have just never thought about how much of our lives involve our imaginations! And yet you’re exactly right–that ability to ask, “What if?” and to picture possibilities is behind all our moral decisions. George MacDonald wrote about this–and how cultivating a…[Read more]

Jennifer Trafton replied to the topic Gospel as Fairy Tale in the forum Background and Context 6 months, 2 weeks ago

Anne, yes, that’s a great point about the resurrection and moving beyond merely rational doctrine! And to me it’s even more excitinf to realize that the resurrection isn’t the *end* of the story but the *beginning* of the Real Story which have only just begun to glimpse.

Brenda Branson replied to the topic Discussion Question: Dr. Odenwald in the forum Week Two: Chapters 9 – 14 8 months, 1 week ago

As a woman that grew up in a patriarchal church and family, I have felt misunderstood, silenced, and oppressed by those who believe women are subservient to men. Men have responded to me with contempt or anger while women have responded with strong disapproval and avoidance. Although I could leave the church with those attitudes, I cannot leave my…[Read more]

Brenda Branson replied to the topic Discussion Question: The gospel and racial attitudes in the forum Week Two: Chapters 9 – 14 8 months, 1 week ago

“Does the gospel. . . as we presently preach it . . . have the power to deal with racial attitudes?” In many white churches, the gospel is preached as a formula to diagnose sin and prescribe a fire insurance policy for one’s soul. It is presented as a theological belief to assent to intellectually rather than permeating and transforming the entir…[Read more]
